This app is designed to be a screening tool. It is hoped people use it to screen their behavior for risk of alcohol dependence and harm. If the results indicate they are at risk, it is encouraged that they then use this perspective and information to seek help.
A common place to start is their doctor. If the person believes their drinking is placing them at immediate risk they may prefer to seek out a facility that specializes in alcohol dependency, an emergency room or attend a peer group such as AA. Often family doctors can help people formulate a set of goals around either abstinence or reduced drinking, both designed to lead to better health. If not, they are usually able to help determine how much risk is present, focus on developing a plan and refer the patient on to someone who specializes in these challenges.
